Lupin III: The Pursuit of Harimao’s Treasure is coming to Blu-Ray in North America!
Discotek Media will be bringing the 1995 TV special to 1080 HD Blu-ray in North America on October 27th, 2020.
Directed by Osamu Dezaki, the 90 minute special includes the famous trademark “Dezaki Moments” or “Dezaki Frames”, which includes stylish looking still images that accent moments of action (like the ones pictured below).
These “Dezaki Frames” are a trademark of Osamu Dezaki’s work, and can also be found throughout Lupin III: Part III and Space Adventure COBRA. The style was eventually adopted by other directors and animators, and can now be found throughout a wider selection of anime.
The latest Discotek release will include the original Japanese language dub complete with English subtitles, along with the 2002 produced FUNimation English dub from a previous DVD release (includes Sonny Strait as Lupin III and Christopher Sabat as Daisuke Jigen).
In addition, the release will also come bundled with fan translations, vintage opening / endings and a special essay covering homophobia throughout 90’s anime.
The seventh Lupin III TV special is infamous for its problematic handling of one of the villainous characters, a homophobic, okama-type cross-dressing stereotype. While it is no excuse, the special is a product of its time, and for the release in 2020, we’re pleased to see that more detailed information on the problem within 90’s anime is to be included.

Lupin III fall clothing collection fully revealed!
If you read up on our Lupin news last week, you may remember these stylish looking Lupin themed winter jackets, which are brand new for 2020.
The jackets (and more) are now available to purchase from the TMS Online shop, however be warned - they cost a pretty penny!
In addition to the jackets, various different long-sleeved shirts, hoodies and more are all on sale, with prices ranging from 9,790~ Japanese yen (for one of the long-sleeved shirts) up to 30,580~ Japanese yen (for one of the new reversible jackets).
While 30,580 Japanese yen (around $290 / €245 / £220) seems a lot to ask for - the jackets are gorgeous and each one is reversible - so we guess that technically makes them two in one?
