Babylon coming to Limited Edition DVD and Blu-ray in Italy!
The 1985 theatrical pink jacket film, Lupin III: Legend of the Gold of Babylon, is coming to limited edition DVD and Blu-ray in Italy this October!
Announced by licensing and distribution company Yamato Video over on Facebook, the set is due to include both DVD and Blu-ray versions of the film (a first, for fans in Italy), in addition to new packaging.
The release aims to make the home video version of the classic film feel up-to-date, and as such, it’ll likely sit nicely alongside Italy’s 2021 re-release of The Castle of Cagliostro. The set will include both original Japanese and dubbed Italian audio, high quality visuals, a twelve-page booklet featuring artwork from the film, and more.
Directed by Seijun Suzuki and Shigetsugu Yoshida, this classic Lupin film is a tonne of fun—with gorgeous visuals, goofy humour, an out-of-this-world narrative and a catchy 80s pop soundtrack.
Before you decide to check it out, though, please note that there are racist caricatures of people of African-American descent throughout the film. Every character of colour is portrayed this way during the entirety of its run-time. While considered “of the time”, it is both inexcusable and wrong. It is impossible to look back on the film favourably without mentioning it—please be warned.
The combo set is due to release on October 20th 2022, and is currently available to pre-order via Amazon.
