Part 6 airing on Italian TV... but with a catch
The 2021 released animated series Lupin III: Part 6 is now airing on television in Italy for the first time!
All twenty-four episodes are set to air weekly on Mediaset’s Italia 2 channel, and will include full Italian voice acting… however, as the title of this post suggests, there is a catch!
The show will debut with a new voice cast, much to the Italian fan communities dismay. This means that the well-loved voice talent for the main cast, which includes Stefano Onofri (Lupin), Alessandra Korompay (Fujiko), Antonio Palumbo (Goemon), Rodolfo Blanchi (Zenigata), and Alessandro Maria D'errico (Jigen), will not be reprising their roles, which they have held on to since 2008.
The Lupin series, which visited Italy itself during 2015’s Part 4, has very much found its second home in the country.
Earlier entries in the franchise, Parts one through three, are considered classic shows to many of those who live there, as they were first aired back in the 1980s and have grown ever more popular since. As such, decisions such as this will no doubt affect fans. Voices have been ringing out on social media over the past week or two for Mediaset to re-instate the old crew (who have themselves expressed their desire to return via posts made online).
To aid their cause, a petition has been created that anybody can sign, no matter where you are in the world. If you are willing to support the Italian communities’ plea, you can sign it yourself by clicking here (please note that minimal details are required to sign, and an alias can be used for the forename and surname if desired).
You can watch the Italian preview video for the series over on Twitter here, thanks to Lupin super-fan and friend of the website, Dario. We hope those waiting for the show can still check it out regardless—and if you would rather catch it via streaming, the Japanese language version of Part 6 is still available in Italy through Amazon’s Prime Video service.
