Monkey News - "Putting the Epic in Epicar"
Welcome to Monkey News, your weekly news update for everything Lupin III.
Lupin III: Part II is now streaming on Prime Video!
The first fifty-one episodes of the second Lupin III TV series are now available for streaming over on Amazon Prime Video.
Each episode contains its English dubbed version only, with no Japanese subtitled version available. The English language dub featuring here is the original Geneon / Pioneer version from the early 2000’s, which aired on North America as part of the Adult Swim programming block.
Included is the (rather infamous) To Be or Nazi Be episode, which will did not broadcast on Adult Swim back in 2003, did make it onto the DVD version of Geneon / Pioneer’s original release. Over on Amazon, it shows up as episode twenty-six.
The voice cast listed on Amazon includes Tony Oliver (Lupin III), Lex Land (Goemon Ishikawa XIII) and the rather oddly named, Richard “Epicar” (Daisuke Jigen).
Is this simply a typo of the legendary voice actors surname, or is it in fact, an intentional way of hyping up the man himself? Richard weighed in on the matter over on Twitter and said…
This happens to be the first time Lupin III: Part II has been made available in several countries, such as the United Kingdom and Australia. Finally, fans outside of North America (such as myself) can watch the series - legally - without the need of importing!
In North America, the show is still readily available for streaming on other platforms, such as Crunchyroll, Tubi and Hulu.
Lupin the Theater gets another quick trailer!
The first “four-dimensional” Lupin III pachinko slot machine from Heiwa releases in Japan later this year.
The latest trailer, while not providing us with anything too interesting, does give us a brief glimpse at Lupin himself. Our thief is set to appear in the game alongside arch rival Mamo, from the 1978 feature film, The Mystery of Mamo.
We reported the rather bizarre looking machines announcement early last week. If you wish to know more, click here to check out the article, which contains more information and the initial two trailers.
Kiyoshi Kobayashi flies a kite!
While not directly Lupin related, our good friend Maia brought this neat little clip to our attention and we thought it might be a fun thing to share!
The clip is taken from an episode of the 2006 show “Odoroki no Arashi”. In it, Kiyoshi Kobayashi (the Japanese voice actor for Daisuke Jigen) narrates along to show staff as they attempt to fly through the air using a big kite - Lupin III: Pilot Film style!
Kiyoshi Kobayashi is a legend in the Japanese voice acting industry, and it’s always nice to see more of his work documented like this - Lupin or no Lupin!
