The Elusiveness of the Fog is Novembers free to watch special in the U.S!

Are you struggling to get to sleep? Finding it difficult to catch forty winks? Why not try Lupin III: The Elusiveness of the Fog, available on YouTube for a limited time this November! It’s guaranteed to help you nod off into a good night’s sleep!

Alright… - while it’s not guaranteed to put you to sleep, this 2007 released television special does its darndest to try. Somehow, it’s the latest to win TMS Entertainment USA’s latest poll, and will be streaming on YouTube for those in the United States between November 1st through to December 5th, 2024.

Released on Blu-ray back in April 2021 for the first time in English speaking territories, Elusiveness of the Fog features the return of a classic Lupin III: Part 1 villain, Kyosuke Mamo, and sees the gang travelling back in time 500 years into the past as a result of his antics. The crew team up with locals and form a truce with their long-time foe, Inspector Zenigata, to help save the future and make it back to present day.

Yasuo Ōtsuka notably animated the eyecatch sequences during the film. These short scenes are based on the original eyecatches from Lupin III: Part II, but feature the Fiat 500 instead of the Merc SSK. Ōtsuka is a veteran of the Lupin series, and helped mentor both Miyazaki and Takahata when working on the original show - so despite its plodding pacing, it’s perhaps worth checking out for that, at the very least!

The Elusiveness of the Fog replaces Episode 0 ~ First Contact, a far better television special that’s appearing for a second time on YouTube. If you’re yet to see it, check it out before it’s gone on October 31st, “you Otaku son of a bitch.”
