Voyage to Danger goes digital!

The 1993 TV special, Lupin III: Voyage to Danger (aka Orders to Assassinate Lupin) is now available in North America digitally via Amazon Prime.

As with previous digital releases, only the mid-2000’s FUNimation English dub is available, with no option for Japanese language audio.

This classic Lupin film was directed by Masaaki Ōsumi, the original director from the first few episodes of the 1971 green jacket television series, Part I.

During the first TV series, Ōsumi was replaced with both Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Unfortunately, it is said that he didn’t leave on the best terms.

The offer he received to direct Voyage to Danger was an apology of sorts, or as a mark of respect to help recognise what he did for the franchise. It is regarded as a relatively mid-tier Lupin special, that while is worth a watch, may not be your favourite.

Have a read of the synopsis below to get an idea of what's in store for Lupin and the gang. If you would rather check out the film with Japanese language audio, Discotek Media's 2016 Blu-ray release is still in stock over on RightStuf.com (at time of writing, at least).

Someone sent orders to assassinate Lupin!

Will he survive or die trying!?

After the intrepid Inspector Zenigata is reassigned from the Lupin case to destroying the international weapon smugglers Shot Shell, master thief Lupin the Third decides to help the old man get his old job back.

To infiltrate Shot Shell, the gang “borrows” a nuclear Russian submarine and enlists the help of a nuclear physicist named Karen, who keeps suspiciously eyeing Lupin’s partner Jigen. If that weren’t enough, Zenigata’s Interpol successor is an assassin with orders to take out the entire Lupin Gang!
