Netflix's Lupin gives subtle nod to Lupin III!
Louis Leterrier and Netflix France’s popular series LUPIN has returned for a second season.
Netflix’s LUPIN features a modern day take on Maurice LeBlanc’s original Arsène Lupin: Gentleman Burglar book series, and stars celebrated French actor Omar Sy as protagonist Assane Diop.
LUPIN: Part 2, as it is frustratingly named and now doomed to haunt our Google searching forever, is delighting viewers across the globe with its old-school thievery, good humor and suspenseful narrative. Just as in the original season, Omar Sy, Ludivine Sagnier and the rest of the crew put on fantastic performances, helping to make the show an exciting watch for both those familiar and unfamiliar with the franchise.
In addition, the second part contains a nice nod to Lupin III, with the gangs famous yellow Fiat 500 showing up for a short scene. This little touch shows that directors and staff on the show are well aware of the other works of Lupin outside of the original book series, and it’s lovely to see.
The show is available exclusively on Netflix, and has been uploaded in a variety of different languages. Our pick would be to stick with the original French language dub, and watch along with subtitles in whichever language you prefer!
LUPIN shows no sign of slowing down, and through observations on social media, seems to have been a good advertisement for the original books, The Castle of Cagliostro (which is also on Netflix), and the Lupin III series in general.
