Monkey News: Live Action Delight
It’s Tuesday and you know what that means… it is time for this week’s Monkey News, the news roundup for everything Lupin III!
Lupin’s famous Fiat, plus a legendary animator attend Wonder Festival 2020!
The popular Japanese anime and figurine convention Wonder Festival is back - with a special appearance fromThe Castle of Cagliostro’s Fiat 500!
The life size replica of Lupin’s classic car is on display at the show, and has been dressed up with all the wear and tear from the latter parts of the 1979 classic film.
Attendees at Wonder Festival would also have been excited to see the (unofficial) second father of Lupin III, Yasuo Ōtsuka, as he wandered the venue over the weekend. The legendary character designer, animator and mentor to the renowned Hayao Miyazaki paid a visit to the Lupin display during his visit. While there, Ōtsuka took out a pen and signed the iconic car - making it a mighty bit more special.

Lupin III: The Live features on Japanese television!
Japanese television show “Oha Suta” (おはスタ), a morning program aimed at a younger audience, has aired a special segment on the recent Universal Studios Japan Lupin III attraction! The piece includes footage of the actors in the park, both at their stage performance and also in the “Ristorante Amore” restaurant.
The clips show the performers in character, interacting with the crowds and putting on a show. As the likeness for Lupin bends down on one knee at the table of their special guests, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a tiny rose in a scene not too far off that of The Castle of Cagliostro. It is incredibly cute and novel - the girl grins as she takes the flower from his hand.
Perhaps it is more of an overall flaw of his character, but we were at first a little unsure about an actor dressed up as Lupin, fawning over women in the park restaurant. Looking at this video, it does not appear to be in poor taste. Everyone looks to be having a good time - we can only hope all attendees feel happy and comfortable as the actors and actresses do their thing.
Keep an eye out for more news regarding the Universal Studios Japan Lupin III: The Live attraction in the coming weeks! Big thanks to @Maia_Maiesta for uploading the video!
