Lupin ZERO prequel project announced!
It’s time to go back to school with LUPIN Zero, a brand-new six-episode long Lupin III animated prequel by TMS and Telecom Animation, coming December 2022!
Partly inspired by the original Young Lupin III stories by Monkey Punch, LUPIN Zero features a mischievous Lupin in his youth, and will follow along on his many misadventures. The show is set in Tokyo during the 1960s, and the animation adapts a stylized look to it, mimicking the 1971 television series Lupin III: Part 1.
While not involved with Part 6 or the upcoming VS Cat’s Eye, Telecom Animation, who are creating this short series, have contributed to the Lupin franchise in recent years with Part 4, Part 5, and the Lupin the IIIRD film trilogy.
The main staff list for LUPIN Zero consists of:
Director: Daisuke Sakou (LUPIN THE 3rd PART 5, Yokai Watch)
Series Supervisor: Ichirou Okouchi (LUPIN THE 3rd PART 5, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)
Settings Research: Seiichi Shirato (LUPIN THE 3rd PART 5, Jormungand)
Character Designer: Asami Taguchi (LUPIN THE 3rd PART 5, Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas)
Music: Yoshihide Otomo (Ama Chan, INU-OH)
Animation Production: Telecom Animation Film Co., Ltd.
Presented by TMS Entertainment Co., Ltd.
Additional information about the project is to be announced in November, and the first episode is to make its debut at the Anime NYC convention in the United States. Those present at the convention can catch LUPIN Zero on November 18th 2022 at 6:30pm, in Panel 4 of the Javits Center.
Please note that due to the mature nature of the show, attendees will need to be over 18 years of age.
The show is then set to be distributed online starting on December 16th 2022 as an ONA (which stands for Original Net Animation, the modern OVA)! Those living within the United States will be able to tune in via streaming website HIDIVE. We expect access in other territories to be announced closer to release.
