Goodbye Partner will air for free on YouTube in the U.S. this September!
Autumn is calling, and with the cooler, crisper air comes another “classic” Lupin III television special on YouTube in the United States! As usual, it will be for free, for a limited time.
From September 6th through to October 3rd, 2024, Goodbye Partner will be available to watch for those living within the United States. First released in January 2019, the twenty-sixth television special will replace Tokyo Crisis, which has been streaming on the service since August 2nd, 2024.
The upload will only be available with English dubbed audio, which stars the classic Geneon dubbing crew as the main cast (Tony Oliver as Lupin III, Richard Epcar as Jigen Daisuke, Michelle Ruff as Fujiko Mine, Lex Lang as Goemon, and Doug Erholtz as Inspector Zenigata).
An angry Lupin appears on TV to explain himself when he hears from Jigen that there are reports saying that "all the crimes Lupin has committed were under the guidance of Inspector Zenigata". To clear up the misunderstanding, Lupin skillfully steals the "Time Crystal", only to have it snatched back by Jigen, of all people. The "Time Crystal" is a special gem used to activate the super quantum computer Emilka, and all this was a scheme of an American politician named Roy. Meanwhile, in London, the most promising candidate to win the International Chopin Piano Competition is kidnapped...
Fan opinion of this early 2019 television special is mixed, at best. While it has some fun moments, overall, the storyline is rather skippable; the way it pits our two heroes, Lupin and Jigen, against one another feels like a missed opportunity. Still, if you are yet to see this one and live within the U.S., why not check it out while it’s online for free?
