Elusiveness of the Fog Blu-ray drops in April!

The 2007 released Lupin III TV special, Elusiveness of the Fog, is set to drop on Blu-ray in North America on April the 27th, 2021.

This upcoming Discotek Media release features 1080p HD video, along with the original Japanese dubbed audio and English subtitles. It is also planned to include clean opening / ending videos, and original TV spots.

Elusiveness of the Fog features the return of a classic Lupin III: Part I villain, Kyosuke Mamo, and sees the gang travelling back in time 500 years into the past as a result of his antics. The crew team up with locals and form a truce with their long-time foe, Inspector Zenigata, to help save the future and make it back to present day.

Yasuo Ōtsuka notably animated the eyecatch sequences during the film. These short scenes are based on the original eyecatches from Lupin III: Part II, but feature the Fiat 500 instead of the Merc SSK. Ōtsuka is a veteran of the Lupin series, and helped mentor both Miyazaki and Takahata when working on the original show.

The film is currently up for pre-order over on RightStufAnime.com, so be sure to snag a copy if you are willing to check this one out!

I genuinely cannot believe we have come to this - Elusiveness of the Fog is releasing in North America!

Discotek Media are being incredibly thorough, and have been pumping out release after release as of late - it’s amazing!

Unfortunately, this is perhaps one of the most underwhelming Lupin TV specials.

It does not feature anything stand-out, does not have any particularly good humor or action moments, and tends to drag on. Out of all of the Lupin TV specials I personally have watched (which is… all of them aside from Prison of the Past), it is the only one that made me fall asleep. Make of that what you will!

With that said, we are continuously appreciative of all of the amazing hard work Discotek Media are doing to bring such a huge part of Lupin’s library state-side. No stone is being left unturned - and from a collector / completionist’s point of view, that is extremely exciting.

It wont be long before every film and special is available in North America. Tell me that ten years ago, and I wouldn’t have believed you - bravo, Discotek!
