Discotek Media detail upcoming “Mystery of Mamo” Blu-ray!
The 1978 theatrical Lupin III film The Mystery of Mamo is returning to home video in the United States – and this time on Blu-ray!
Originally released on DVD by Discotek Media on February 26th 2013, The Mystery of Mamo is notable for being the first ever animated feature length Lupin III film. It is often cited by those studying animation from a critical standpoint, and by fans as one of their favourite entries in the franchise.
While the atmosphere / characterization is dark at times and the plot goes rather zany, it is perhaps one of the most Lupin-like films to exist to date. Mamo draws parallels to the original manga series in terms of tone and art style, and it is considered an all-time classic amongst fans.
The new release is to include updated liner notes, the Japanese audio dub and all four English dubs. The English dubs included are from Frontier Productions (1978), Streamline Pictures (1994), Manga UK (1995) and Geneon / Phuuz (2005).
A new trailer is also available, which compiles a handful of scenes shown during the film. This includes some violence, nudity, and scenes of a sexual nature (and as such, we weren’t able to embed it on this page). You can watch it on Twitter, proving your account passes the minimum age criteria, by clicking here.
