Discotek Media detail Cagliostro 4k UHD release!
Discotek Media have given an extensive look at their upcoming 4K UHD Blu-ray release of The Castle of Cagliostro.
Reading over the details via their Twitter thread, Discotek have made it absolutely clear that this is the definitive version of the classic 1979 Hayao Miyazaki film.
Not only does the film come with what appears to be tweaked footage from the 4K anniversary release in Japan, but it also features Ultra High Definition visuals and High Dynamic Range, giving better lighting and a higher picture quality.
The disc comes packed in gorgeous redesigned packaging, which features a poster style inlay and printed chapter insert. There are tonnes of audio tracks included, which consist of the original Japanese mono, Japanese remastered 7.1 surround sound, the 2000 Manga dub, the 1992 Streamline Pictures dub (clips of both can be found here) and a censored version of the 2000 Manga dub, with profanity removed.
Remastered English subtitles are of course bundled in, along with subtitles for the hearing impaired AND as a bonus, the goofy 1980’s subtitles from the original North American theatrical release. The art gallery from previous releases is also back, but this time in UHD 4K!
The audio commentary from LupinThe3rd.com’s Reed Nelson is back, along with 35 pages of extensive liner notes. A picture-in-picture storyboard version of the film is also included, for enthusiasts of film creation everywhere.
If all of this was not enough, Discotek’s very own Brady Hartel has put together a trailer for the release, which features brand new voice over from Solid Snake himself, David Hayter.
This is a pretty big deal, as while Hayter has always been vocal about how proud he is for voicing Lupin himself in the 2000 Manga dub of The Castle of Cagliostro, he has unfortunately never reprised the role - until now! A 30~ minute long interview with the man himself can also be found on the set.
Check out the trailer embedded below - it’s worth noting the image quality here looks super bright, to the point it may appear over-saturated to some. We’re keen to see it on a 4K TV with HDR enabled before judging it, but what is shown below does appear different to the Japanese 4K release, so some image tweaks have likely taken place.
The full release of the film is planned for January 26th, 2021 in North America, and buyers can pre-order right now over at RightStufAnime.com!
