Cagliostro themed Ukiyo-e Prints go on sale!
A series of extremely high quality Ukiyo e-Prints are now on sale in Japan, and each features an iconic moment from The Castle of Cagliostro!
Each print contains the combined talent of both Saeko Nagai and Keizaburo Matsuzaki, two legendary woodblock artists who have been manufacturing highly detailed prints for over seventy years. The Ukiyo woodblock printing process contains an enormous amount of manual labour, and requires skilled technique.
The famous scene included in the pictures shows the first meeting between Lupin and Clarisse, after our favourite thief infiltrates the tallest tower atop the castle of the dastardly Count.
The three separate pieces can be purchased individually, or as part of one long frame (198,000 yen). Individually framed pieces range from 92,400 yen (for both characters) and 52,800 yen (for a single character).
Each piece is limited to a run of one-hundred, and each includes a numbered plaque placed on the frame itself, below the artwork.
If those prices weren’t enough to scare you off, there’s even an ultimate edition bundle for around $17,000. All pieces shown above are included in the ultimate edition bundle, along with three carved woodblocks in acrylic cases, and a set of sixty-two prints demonstrating the colouring process. The ultimate edition collectibles made on order, and will cost around a whopping 1.98 million yen (ouch)!

A huge amount of effort goes into the production process, and it’s easy to see why the sale price is so high!
We’re confident that for whoever buys them, the prints will be worth every penny. Buyers in Japan can order them now via the official TMS shop.
